“I LOVE teaching!!!
But sometimes it can really be...
A Pain In the Neck”
The Causes of Neck Pain
Before discussing methods for relieving neck pain, let’s first look at the causes of neck pain.
Injuries - such as an automobile accident or a fall - can cause neck pain. Teachers, of course, are not immune to injuries, but injuries are NOT the most common cause of their neck pain.
Instead, for teachers, there are TWO other causes that are far more common:
-
1.Repetitive Motions
-
2.Stress
Let’s look at each of these in a little more depth:
(We’ll talk more about CORRECTING the CAUSE of the neck pain in a moment.)
As for “Stress”, thank goodness that there is absolutely no stress involved with being a schoolteacher.
JUST KIDDING!!!
I really am just kidding.
Being a schoolteacher is very stressful. The responsibilities and pressures that come with being a teacher are astronomical and extend far beyond simply dealing with students in a classroom. Bureaucracy, endless paperwork, and parents are just some of the additional stressors that a teacher has to deal with.
The bottom line is that the emotional stress of teaching DOES take a physical toll on the body.
Stress, especially chronic stress, can place a “pull” on the muscles and vertebra of the neck. This, in turn, may result in an irritation - or “pinching” - of the surrounding nerves.
Unfortunately, most “treatments” seem to focus less on “correcting” the cause of the pain and more on simply covering up the symptoms.
As stated above, drugs and creams that offer “temporary relief” certainly have their place, but they do little to actually correct the problem.
What Is The Solution???
If neck pain can be brought on by structural and muscular imbalances, then the goal of treatment must be to identify and correct these imbalances.
Enter CHIROPRACTIC
Does It Work???
A pilot study published in the December 2005 scientific journal, Clinical Chiropractic, studied 21 individuals with neck pain. Each participant was tested for neck pain, along with values associated with pain such as quality of life, levels of anxiety and depression.
Each of the 21 individuals received a regime of chiropractic care. The results showed that 19 of the 21 participants experienced improvement.
19 out of 21 individuals experienced improvement?
That, to me, is phenomenal!!!
Can Chiropractic care help you?
Great question. But first, let me introduce myself:
Honestly, I don’t know. What I do know, however, is that I would like the opportunity to examine the muscles and vertebra of your neck and shoulders to see if there are any imbalances.
If, after consulting with you and examining your spine, I find that you don’t have any misaligned vertebra (or if there are any non-chiropractic related findings), I will NOT recommend chiropractic care for you.
If, however, I DO find that you have misaligned vertebra, I WILL recommend chiropractic care for you.
It’s really that simple.
