Chiropractic and TMJ
I love treating individuals with TMJ.
Really, I do.
The reason is simple: There is a great need for it.
You see, TMJ Disorder affects approximately 1 out of every 10 adults in this country. The cost involved for care totals more than $4 Billion dollars.
Yes, that’s Billions, with a “B”.
Most individuals with TMJ Disorder seek care from a dentist and, fortunately, many of them are helped. Others, however, are not so lucky and are left suffering.
Until now.
For many unresolved cases of TMJ Disorder, a trip to the Chiropractor may prove to be extremely beneficial.
But, not just any Chiropractor...
It is important to find a Chiropractor with training in the care of TMJ Disorders and with a strong background in Cranial Adjusting.
Cranial Adjusting is a form of Chiropractic care that focuses on identifying and correcting misalignments (subluxations) to the bones of the cranium.
Looking at the picture above, you can see some of the bones of the cranium.
Now, let’s look at these bones, especially around the jaw, when a person has opened his/her mouth:
Opening your mouth causes the jaw bone (mandible) to move in a pivot-like manner. For most people, this movement occurs without any problem. But, for individuals with a jaw that is slightly out of alignment, the movement is NOT smooth.
Improper positioning and/or movement of the jaw bone is referred to as TMJ Disorder (or, oftentimes, simply “TMJ”) and can be very painful.
The key to correction is to identify - and correct - the precise jaw bone misalignment.
Although most Chiropractors have NOT received training in the correction of TMJ Disorder, there are some that have. Usually, this training is in the form of a “Cranial Manipulation Technique”.
My training and experience with Cranial Corrective Technique in the care of individuals with TMJ Disorder has allowed me to help many individuals as well as receive referrals from area dentists.
If you, or someone you know, suffers with TMJ and would like an evaluation, please feel free to contact us for an appointment.
